Reginald Howard White was born and raised in Tennessee. He spent his entire youth there and went to the University of Tennessee there for his undergraduate studies. When he was a little child, his mother and grandmother raised him in Chattanooga. The family was deeply religious. They routinely visited the Baptist church in the area, and White remembers being inspired by the pastors and professors he met there when he was a little lad.
