Prince Andrew’s career
In 1979, after completing his secondary education, he enrolled in Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC), Dartmouth, following in his father’s footsteps. Andrew completed his program at BRNC in 1980. He received his pilot’s wings in 1981 after completing training in both fixed- and helicopter-wing flight. The Falkland Islands War broke out the following year, and he took part in helicopter operations while serving as a sublieutenant in the Royal Navy aboard HMS Invincible. Andrew continued to serve in the military even after the war was done. The majority of his service was spent in naval aviation, although from 1993 to 1994 he was also in charge of the minesweeper HMS Cottesmore. During his final years of active duty, he worked in London for the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defence. He left the military in 2001 as a commander but continued to be a member of the navy, rising to the honorary rank of vice admiral in 2015.
