Prince Andrew’s career
Following in his father’s footsteps, he enrolled in the Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC), Dartmouth, in 1979 after finishing his secondary education. In 1980, Andrew finished his course of study at BRNC. After completing training in both fixed- and helicopter-wing flight, he was awarded his pilot’s license in 1981. The Falkland Islands War broke out the next year, and while serving as a sublieutenant in the Royal Navy on board HMS Invincible, he participated in helicopter operations. After the war was over, Andrew kept on serving in the military. Although he spent the majority of his service in naval aviation, he also oversaw the minesweeper HMS Cottesmore from 1993 to 1994.He worked in London for the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defence during his last years of active duty. He was a commander when he left the military in 2001, but he remained a part of the navy, ascending to the honorary rank of vice admiral in 2015.
