Matt Gaetz’s sex-trafficking

Gaetz was accused of breaking federal sex trafficking statutes by engaging in a sexual connection with a 17-year-old girl in exchange for cash, which Gaetz disputed, and the Department of Justice launched an inquiry into the matter in late 2020. The House Ethics Committee also announced a probe in April 2021. Career prosecutors have advised against charging Gaetz in the sex trafficking probe, telling Justice Department supervisors that a conviction is improbable in part because of credibility concerns regarding the two key witnesses, according to a Washington Post article from September 2022.
