Jenas is of mixed Afro-Caribbean and English ancestry and was born in Nottingham. He made 341 league appearances for English club teams Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Queens Park Rangers while playing as a central midfielder. During his career, he scored 39 goals. Additionally, he made 21 appearances and one goal with the senior England national football team.
