Who is Carol Mann?

Carol Mann born on February 3, 1941 to Louis Mann Sr. and Ann (Barker) Mann was an American professional golfer.  She joined the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour in 1961 and went on to win 38 LPGA Tour events and two major championships. The World Golf Hall of Fame includes her as a member.
Mann was raised in Chicago, Illinois and Baltimore, Maryland after being born in Buffalo, New York. At the age of nine, she first took up golf. In 1958, she took first place in the Western Junior, the Chicago Junior, and the Chicago Women’s Amateurin 1960.  She studied at the Greensboro campus of the University of North Carolina.

Carol Mann: Profesional Carrier

In 1960, Mann went pro, and in 1961, she joined the LPGA Tour. In 1964, she took home the victory in the Women’s Western Open, a notable competition at the time. She would go on to win 38 events in total, including two major titles, on the LPGA Tour. She was the tour’s top money winner in 1969 and received the LPGA Vare Trophy in 1968 for having the lowest scoring average. With 10 victories in 1968 (equal with Kathy Whitworth), eight in 1969, and four in 1975, she was the circuit leader in victories three times (tied with Sandra Haynie). From 1973 until 1976, she presided over the LPGA. In 1977, she was admitted to the World Golf Hall of Fame. In 1981, she made her last competitive outing. Mann had been a longtime pupil of Manuel de la Torre, a golf coach. The PGA of America presented her with the “First Lady of Golf Award” in 2008.
