Since 2021, Byron Lowell Donalds, a politician and businessman from the United States, has represented Florida’s 19th congressional district. He was born on October 28, 1978. Most of Southwest Florida’s central region, including Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, Estero, and Naples, is served by his district.
Donalds was born and reared in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, attended Florida A&M University, and in 2002 he graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in finance and marketing. He was a Republican and a supporter of the Tea Party movement. In 2012, he made an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. House of Representatives. From 2016 until 2020, Donalds served as the Florida House of Representatives’ 80th district representative.
Donalds defeated his Democratic opponent Cindy Banyai to win his first election to Congress in 2020. He supported the repeal of the 2002 AUMF and voted against the certification of electors from Arizona and Pennsylvania in the 2020 presidential election. He is a U.S. Representative. In the fourth, fifth, and sixth voting rounds of the 2023 election for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Donalds secured enough Republican votes to defeat Kevin McCarthy.

Byron Donalds’ Career
Byron graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in marketing and finance. Byron’s professional path took him to Southwest Florida, where he worked in the insurance, finance, and banking sectors. In the State Capitol, Byron represented Hendry County and east Collier County after being elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2016. Byron served as the PreK-12 Quality Subcommittee Chair during the 2018–2019 Legislative Session and the Chairman of the Insurance & Banking Subcommittee during the 2019–2020 Legislative Session during his time in the Florida House. During my time in the Florida House, I mostly concentrated on issues relating to seniors, criminal justice reform, and making sure that every child had access to a top-notch education.
